Joie Watson Cadle '70

Joie Watson Cadle '70 is the current chairman of the Orange County School Board. She was first elected in 2002 and is now serving her second term. As a 20-year volunteer in the Orange County public school system, Mrs. Cadle worked her way from cafeteria volunteer to three-time PTA president at the elementary, middle, and high school levels and from there to the office of an elected school board member.

In public education, she serves on the board of the Florida School Boards Association and is chairperson of their Board Development Committee. She represents Orange County as chairman of the Central Florida Public School Boards Coalition. Mrs. Cadle serves on the Board of Directors of the Council of the Great City Schools, an organization of the nation’s largest urban public school systems. This organization selected Mrs. Cadle as a finalist for the 2009 Richard Green Award, which recognizes outstanding contributions to urban education.

In the community, Mrs. Cadle serves on the board of the SAFE Community Advisory Board, the Orlando Science Center, and the Community Leadership Council of the Howard Phillips Center for Children and Families. Additionally, she is a member of the Winter Park Chamber Council of Leaders and a graduate of Leadership Winter Park. She works with the Winter Park Chamber of Commerce on its Youth Leaders program and founded the City of Winter Park Youth Advisory Board.

In 2000, Mrs. Cadle was recognized by Principal Bill Gordon as a lifetime Wildcat for her years of service to Winter Park High School.
