Susie Van der Veer Parrish '98

Susie Van der Veer Parrish was a starter on the varsity softball team and had the highest batting average (.480), most hits (223), most runs batted in (240), and single season records for RBI's (60) and batting average (.645). Susie was selected as the MVP in 1996 and best defensive player in 1996, 1997, and 1998, and helped lead the team to a state championship in 1998 and a state runner-up finish in 1996. She was named to the All-State team in 1995, 1996, and 1998 and the All-County team for five consecutive years; she was a three-time recipient of the National Fastpitch Coaches Association Scholar-Athlete Award and was selected as the Florida Athletic Coaches Association District Player of the Year in 1996. As a member of the varsity basketball team, she was selected as the MVP in 1997, best defensive player in 1998, and co-captain her junior and senior years.

Susie continued her athletic achievements in college, starring for the Coast Guard Academy's softball team from 1999 to 2002 where she set career batting records for batting average (.467), most hits (198), RBI's (135), doubles (43), and home runs (18). She earned All-American honors in 2002, All-Region in 1999 and 2002, and All-Conference in 2001 and 2002. Susie also earned two varsity letters in basketball and soccer while at the Coast Guard Academy and was named as the best female athlete of the class of 2002.
