Message from the Principal I want to welcome you to the Middle School and share with you some important information about our school. As students transition into early adolescence, they go through a period of enormous change and development. In keeping with our mission, and with the unique needs of Middle School students in mind, we provide challenging academic courses, character and leadership development, and a multitude of extra-curricular activities. Our teachers not only challenge the students academically in their courses, but care about each student as an individual. As a school, we know that to meet the demands of Upper School and beyond, students need intellectual capability, but also need attributes of healthy personal development. Our curriculum is developmentally appropriate and challenges our students to grow intellectually. We utilize projects, interdisciplinary work, and group assignments to build student interest and encourage excellence. Our students develop the skills necessary for success in the core academic courses and have many opportunities to pursue new interests through electives. In all classes we emphasize communication skills, reading, writing, speaking, and problem solving, and always seek to stretch each child’s curiosity. As a part of our school mission, we also focus on the ethical and moral development of our students. This happens each day in class, advisory, chapel, on the stage, and the athletic fields. We work with parents to enforce the decision making, tolerance, respect, and honesty they are already teaching students at home. In all our endeavors with students, we encourage them to try new things and explore their interests with the knowledge that we are here to support them. Sincerely, Jason Dowdy Middle School Principal |
