College Counseling

College Counseling Mission: Our mission is to provide a full range of services and programs for Trinity Prep students and parents about the college/career investigation and selection processes. We promote studenthood and finding the best fit for college.

College Counseling Philosophy: As a college preparatory school, Trinity Prep is committed to helping students conduct authentic college searches aimed at finding the right college fit for each individual.  To that end, we administer a comprehensive, 9-12 college counseling program that counsels each family and encourages students to become aware of their skills, interests, and values as they seek appropriate college matches.  Because the college selection process can be stressful, providing good counsel and support for families as they move through the college decision-making process is vital.

Important commitments of College Counseling at Trinity:

  • We believe that the primary criterion for choosing a college should be “fit” rather than prestige or "name."
  • We believe that each senior deserves acceptance at more than one college where he/she would be happy to attend.
  • We view ourselves as advocates for our students in the college admission process.
  • We believe that effective teamwork (student, parent(s), teachers, and college counselors) is essential to accomplish a student's college counseling goals.

College Fit:  The "best college" is the one that is right for each student.  It is not necessarily a parent's college, or the one a student's love interest will attend, or the college with the most impressive car sticker.  It is the college that will best meet a student's needs.  It fits that student.  Students shouldn't be surprised if they find more than one school that fits.  That's great.  Not only will a student be happier at such colleges, the odds are that he or she will have a better chance of getting in.

A good college fit is one that will:

  • Offer a program of study to match a student's interests and needs;
  • Provide a style of instruction that is well suited to the way that student learns best;
  • Provide a level of academic rigor to match that student's ability;
  • Offer a community that feels like home to the student;
  • Value each student for what he or she does well.

Nuts and Bolts: The College Counselors coordinate all aspects of the college application process at Trinity Preparatory School. Our program is designed to assist students and their parents in the selection of colleges which will best match individual preferences. The college counselors will introduce the students to helpful resources (people, print, electronic), inform the students about appropriate options and important deadlines, and guide the students in preparing accurate, complete, and timely applications.
