Dickens Day has been an annual Trinity Prep celebration for over 27 years. Former English teacher Jane Jones initially started the school tradition. It was developed as a fun event for 7th-grade students following their reading of “A Christmas Carol” by Charles Dickens in their English classes and learning about the Industrial Revolution in history classes. This year, our 7th-grade Dickens Day Celebration will occur on Monday, December 9.
Students will begin the day with hot chocolate, dancing, and storytelling, then head to the Auditorium to watch “The Man Who Invented Christmas.” A holiday lunch will be available in the Grille, and the 7th-grade drama students will perform the play, “A Christmas Carol.” The afternoon will be filled with excitement as students play games, wrap presents for Adopt-a-Family, and see their research and hard work paying off by selling their wares and services at “Ye Olde Street Faire.”
Dickens Day has taken on different forms over the years, and the recent version is directed by Trinity teachers Hannah Schuttler, Jeff Wilson, Stefani Wood, and Ann Skippers. We extend special thanks to this year’s parent volunteers, Sarah Cohen, Jessica Reuss, Stacey Paul, Shannon Nanus, and Erin White, for coordinating this event. Dickens Day has also always been a partnership between the school and our Trinity Parents Organization (TPO). It would not be possible to put on this special day without the help of our many parent volunteers and leaders.
