Katie Gordon ’02
Katie earned a total of six varsity letters as a member of our swimming and diving team. She was named team captain in her senior year. Katie was selected First Team All-County eight times beginning in eighth grade in three different races (500-yard freestyle, 400-yard freestyle, and 200-yard medley relay). She was a high school All-American in both the 200 medley relay from 2000 to 2002 and 400 freestyle in 2001 and 2002. Katie was USA All-American six times from 1997 to 2002 in four different races (200 freestyle, 500 freestyle, 100 backstroke, and 200 individual medley relay). She was the state champion in the 200 medley relay in 1999. In 2000-01, Katie swam on the Women’s Scholastic All-American Team (17th in the U.S.). Her teams were state runners-up from 1997 to 2000.
As a club swimmer, Katie had many top-five Florida rankings, including six number-one rankings. At the 2001 USA Summer Nationals, she finished seventh in 200-meter backstroke, and at the 2001 USA Winter Nationals, she finished 15th in 1500-meter freestyle. In 1998, she was ranked 26th in the world for 1500-meter freestyle. Currently, Katie holds seven Trinity Prep Aquatics records.
Katie continued her athletic career at the University of Virginia from 2002 to 2006 and was named captain her senior year. She was a two-time NCAA D1 National All- American, six-time NCAA D1 National Championships event qualifier, and NCAA D1 National Championships semi-finalist. She was a two-time ACC team champion and two-time ACC champion relay member. Katie was named to the All-ACC Academic Women’s Swimming and Diving Team in 2006. In 2004, she swam at the Olympic Trials Qualifier in three events and finished in the top 25. Katie was awarded MVP of UVA’s swim team in 2005.
