Tony Stevens '76
Tony Stevens earned ten varsity letters as a member of the football, basketball, soccer, baseball, and track teams. On many occasions, Tony competed simultaneously in baseball and track. As a member of the football team, he played tight end and defensive end and was selected to the All-County team in 1975 and 1976. He was a center on the basketball team his senior year, played center fullback on the soccer team his junior and senior years, and was a member of the track team, running the 4x100 relay. Tony's greatest achievements came on the baseball field, where he set school records for most hits, runs batted in, and home runs for a season and a career. He was captain of the team his senior year and was voted the team’s most valuable player.
Tony continued his baseball career at the University of Florida, where he set single season and career records for home runs, runs batted in, and doubles. In 1979, he was named to the All-Southeastern Conference Team and the All-South Regional Team and received the Orlando Amateur Association College Baseball Award. In 1980, he was elected captain of the University of Florida baseball team and was once again the recipient of the Orlando Amateur Association College Baseball Award. Tony was drafted by the Boston Red Sox in 1980 and played for their organization for five years. While playing for the Elmira Red Sox in 1980, he set the single season record for home runs and was selected to the All-Conference team.
