Mary Elise Barnett Woodson ’80

Mary earned a total of five varsity letters as a member of our track and field team. She won a district championship each year from 1977 to 1980 (mile relay twice, 880 medley relay, 110 hurdles, 330 hurdles twice, 440 relay twice, and long jump). She won the state championship in 110 hurdles in 1977, in the 880 medley relay in 1978, in the 330 hurdles and 440 relay in 1979, and in the 330 hurdles, 440 relay (new record) and mile medley relay (new record) in 1980. In 1979, Mary was awarded Most Valuable Player for Track and Field and was named captain in her senior year. Mary was also a cheerleader from 1977 to 1980 and was named captain her senior year.

Mary continued her athletic career at the University of Alabama, where she participated in intramural sports, including soccer and flag football. Her teams won four campus championships. In 1983, her flag football team represented the University of Alabama in the National Flag Football Championship in New Orleans.
